Plan Review
Training, Consultation, and Guidance
The FORTIFIED Roof™ standard is to help homeowners keep their roof on and keep water out during hurricanes, high winds, and severe thunderstorms.
Focused Protection
Focus is on strengthening the roof, a home’s first line of defense against severe weather.
Cost-Effective
FORTIFIED Roof standards are not particularly extensive or costly compared to other existing methods.
FORTIFIED Silver - Hurricane includes all the requirements of FORTIFIED Roof™ plus:
Protecting all openings
Glazed openings
Entry doors
Garage doors
Strengthening gable ends
Laterally bracing all gable ends greater than 4-ft. tall
Improving the uplift resistance of long gable end overhangs
Ensuring that gable end sheathing provides, at a minimum, the resistance to wind pressures and debris impact provided by 7/16-inch thick OSB wood structural panels attached to wood wall framing.
Improving the anchorage of attached structures (porches and carports).
Strengthening vinyl and aluminum soffits greater than 12 inches wide.
FORTIFIED Gold is used primarily in new construction of major rehab projects. FORTIFIED Gold includes all FORTIFIED Roof and Silver requirements plus:
Providing continuous load path connections between roof support members and load-bearing walls, between load-bearing and shear walls above and below intermediate floors of multi-story homes, and between bottom floor bearing and shear walls down to the foundation.
Adequately securing chimneys to the structure.
Ensuring that windows and doors meet appropriate design pressures in addition to being protected from windborne debris.
Ensuring that exterior walls are constructed using a wall system that provides, at a minimum, the resistance to wind pressures and debris impact provided by 7/16-inch thick OSB wood structural panels attached to wood wall framing.
We review structural/architectural plans to confirm that plans depict continuous load paths. (This plan review is limited to provided plans. Engineering calculations are not performed). Plan review correction materials including marked up plans, documents, and plan check correction lists are presented in the format desired by you (our Client).
We can work with your team (staff, builders, roofers, etc.) and will provide training courses and/or guidance on FORTIFIED standards.
